Why Do Molehills Form?

When a mole digs new tunnels, spoil can develop that needs to be removed. To do this, the mole often digs a shaft to the surface to displace this excess soil. These mounds of excavated dirt are the hills synonymous with recent mole activity.

How Many Moles Will I Have?

It's hard to say, as each case is different. Moles are often solitary characters, meaning they burrow and feed alone. Male and female moles can briefly cross paths during mating season (February to May), and you may have a nest of up to six offspring from March to September.

Mole territories can also overlap, meaning your green space may be infiltrated by multiple moles at once. Don't be fooled if you see a lot of new hills though - a single mole can dig up to 50m in one night alone!

How Do Traditional Molecatchers Do Their Job?

As one of the best molecatchers in Bolton, I wouldn't want to give away all my secrets! However, the general gist of traditional mole-catching can be boiled down to the use of fast-acting, ultra-reliable Duffus traps.

These mole traps are placed in the feeding tunnels close to the surface. Multiple traps are often placed throughout the moles' labyrinth to ensure a successful catch.
